How Split by Bookmarks works

If your PDF already has bookmarks — chapters in an ebook, sections in a report — Gojli's Split by Bookmarks tool uses them to automatically split the file into one PDF per section, no manual page ranges needed.

  1. 1

    Upload your PDF

Choose a PDF that has bookmarks (an outline/table of contents) already set.

  2. 2

    Review the detected bookmarks

Gojli reads the top-level bookmarks and shows which page each one starts at.

  3. 3

    Split and download

Click Split by Bookmarks and download each section as its own PDF, individually.

Frequently asked questions

What if my PDF has no bookmarks?

You'll see a message saying none were found — use the plain Split PDF tool to split by page ranges instead.

Does it use nested/sub-bookmarks too?

Only top-level bookmarks are used as split points — sub-bookmarks stay inside their parent section's file.

What happens to pages before the first bookmark?

They're kept as their own leading section (e.g. a cover page or table of contents) instead of being dropped.
